Reliable Contracting was proud to participate in Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh’s announcement at the Kent Circle repaving project in Glen Burnie two weeks ago. On Friday, July 31, Schuh proved his increased commitment to road projects in the county by announcing his intentions to increase funding for road construction projects by $9 million in the current fiscal year, from $17 million last year to $26 million starting July 1, 2015. County Executive Schuh stayed to oversee the Kent Circle project as Reliable Contracting partnered with Olney Masonry Corp. to pave the road and replace the sidewalks.

The additional funding will come from the JumpStart Anne Arundel Capital Funding Program, where the life county bonds will increase from 20 to 30 years to finance projects such as this one. This way, Anne Arundel County will have longer to pay back their loans and free up more money to spend on current projects. Schuh said of this decision, “Nothing is more important than having a quality transportation network.”
Last year, Anne Arundel County repaved 60 miles of road out of 1,785 total miles of road in the county. With this additional funding, it hopes to increase that number to 100 miles over the next year. Each mile of work costs the county about $1 million, according to Greg Africa, deputy director of public works.
