Norm Myers and the Odenton Town Center Plan Oversight Committee
Norm, who is 73-years-old, is the longest-running of the oversight committee, having helped plan Odenton for more than 20 years. And until recently, Norm had never missed a minute of a single meeting. That was until recently, when Norm excused himself politely and walked out of an oversight committee meeting that had reached well into its fourth hour.
But Norm did not leave in protest; Norm left because he had surgery in the morning and needed his rest. In fact, it was amazing that Norm was at the meeting at all.
“Norm is old school,” said Joe Gorman, a former committee member and president of the Greater Odenton Improvement Association (GOIA). “He’s always had the best interests of the town center in mind. He’s always wanted to make it look good and have good amenities.”
Norm has lived in Odenton or Gambrills for most of his life. And it has been his desire to see the community grow and expand. It was for this reason that Norm helped form the oversight committee. But he not only wanted to ensure that Odenton got developed, but Norm also wanted to ensure that residents had a say in how Odenton got developed.
“He’s been Mr. Odenton for a generation and has been active in everything,” said GOIA Vice President David Tibbets of Norm. “It’s on and on and he does it all well and still makes a living.”
Recently, however, Norm has been slowed by cancer treatments. Still, he goes to work each and every day and has yet to skip an entire meeting of the town center committee.
“The only reason I stuck with the committee for so long is that I wanted to see it completed,” said Norm. “Whether I’ll live long enough to see it completed, I don’t know. I’d be 100 if it took as many years as I’ve been involved with it so far.”
We thank you Norm for your dedication to our community!
