National Work Zone Awareness Week 2024 is this week! This annual weekly national celebration highlights the importance of road work safety for both construction workers and drivers. It is also a special time to support the families that have lost loved ones due to road construction accidents. At Reliable Contracting, we’re celebrating National Work Zone Awareness Week 2024!

The above title is the theme of this year’s NWZAW, hosted by the Maryland Department of Transportation. It is amazing how actions that can last as short as a millisecond can have an eternal impact. When a musician practices for a recital, the recital might last a couple of hours, but the impact of that performance can last for decades. So too driving by road work zones can have an impact that echoes into the following years. Work zones aren’t permanent setups, but good or bad driving can change lives.
The National Work Zone Awareness Week 2024 Schedule
2024’s National Work Zone Awareness Week goes from April 15 to April 19. The events for this week are as follows:
- Monday is Work Zone Safety Training Day
- Tuesday is the Kickoff Event Hosted by the Maryland DOT
- Wednesday is Go Orange Day
- Thursday is the Social Media Storm
- Friday is a Moment of Silence
How You Can Get Involved
On Wednesday, you can show your support by wearing orange. St. Patrick’s Day is green; Go Orange for Work Zone Safety is orange.
On Thursday, participate in the social media storm, supporting your local road workers. The best time to do it is between 9 AM and 4 PM EST. Use hashtags like #NWZAW, #WorkZoneSafety, or #OrangeforSafety.
Friday is a day for a moment of silence for those who perished or were injured in a road work accident, whether it be a road worker or a driver. It can be a moment of reflection alone or with a group.
