The summer season tends to be a very busy time of the year for many people. Between, children being out of school, people hosting parties/barbeques, and being on vacation, times can get a little hectic. June is National Safety Month which is devoted to summer safety awareness. It is important to realize that all the summer festivities can lead to potential dangers. Here are a few summer safety tips to help keep everyone safe at work.
Stay Cool
The summer can bring relentless rounds of heat. It is very easy to become overheated when the temperature and humidity are so high. This is especially the case if you are a construction worker who needs to work outside during the day. Be sure to wear light-colored colors that can breather and to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. It is also important to remember to take breaks throughout the day to shady spots to get out of the sun.
Reduce All Possible Distractions
There are always going to be distractions around you at work. Whether it is text messages, sports updates, or your friend sparking a conversation, you always need to stay focused while on a job. You especially do not want to become distracted when you are operating a vehicle, heavy machinery, or walking through a hazardous area.
Pay Attention To The Road
According to the Association For Safe International Road Travel, over 37,000 people die in road crashes each year. Many of these deaths can be attributed back to distracted driving. With that said, it can be overstated how important it is to always focus on the road ahead of you. One of the best things you can do to avoid distracted driving is a set aside plenty of time for the morning commute to work. Don’t try to juggle multiple tasks in your vehicle, as that is a recipe for disaster.
