At Reliable, we enjoy having the opportunity to offer students insights into how the business world works and what their options become as they get older. We know that many of our outstanding employees had a solid foundation in work ethics and education in their chosen field. We recently had the chance to sponsor the 4th and 5th grade classes of Glen Burnie Park Elementary School to attend an event called “BizTown.” Set up by Junior Achievement of Central Maryland, this event allowed students to experience what it’s like to work in the media, run a business, or participate in government affairs. It seems that all students enjoyed it, given the number of letters we received, but one student in particular helped capture the experience. Denny G. writes:
“Thank you for sponsoring us to come to BizTown for free. One of the things I learned was how to start a business and work together. To work together you have to get along because my job was utility engineer and you needed two people for that. One of my favorite things I learned was how to write a check and deposits. For utility engineer you needed to go to every business and plug in a wire and if they wanted to, change their filter. It was a pretty hard job, but I could handle it. Now I see how parents work so hard for us and work for our education, food, and clothes. I really enjoyed BizTown. Thank you so much!”
Seeing a student enjoy a program like this so much and taking important life lessons out of it is the main reason we work to be able to sponsor these types of events and work with our upcoming generations. It’s a rewarding feeling to know that we’ve made even a small difference in the life of a child and to see what he or she will do with the knowledge gained! Hopefully Denny’s experience as a utility manager will lead him to great things in his future!
